CLIMB THE LIGHTHOUSE AT THE AWARD WINNING, 4 STAR VISIT SCOTLAND AWARD VISITOR ATTRACTION MULL OF GALLOWAY EXPERIENCE   Perched on the edge of a 260 ft high cliff, the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse sits on the edge of southern Scotland. It was built by Robert Stevenson, with work commencing in 1828 and taking two years to complete. The light, which stands 99 m above sea level, was first lit on the 26th March 1830.   The former engine room is where the Lighthouse Exhibition is housed, where you can learn how lighthouses used to operate before automation and electricity. There are numerous artefacts on display, including three Kelvin Diesel 44 HP engines (circa 1955) which were used to provide air for the fog horn.   The exhibition also has details of all previous light house keepers who worked at the Mull of Galloway. If your interest is with lighthouses, or you just want to know what it was like, then a visit to the exhibition is a must.   The Mull of Galloway Lighthouse is open for visitors to climb on a weekend, every bank holiday and additional Mondays in July and August.   In addition the Lighthouse Exhibition, in the former engine room, is open daily throughout the season.   ADMISSION CHARGES Exhibition only Adult £2.50 Child under 14 years £1.00 Tower only Adult £2.50 child £1.00 Both Exhibition and Tower Adult £4.00 Child £1.50 Children 5 years and under are free.
